USQ Alumni celebrated the deepening of people to people ties at the 62nd Annual Gala Ball of Australian Alumni Singapore.
Special Guest Australian High Commissioner His Excellency Mr Bruce Gosper opened the event with a speech on the importance of strengthening and deepening people to people ties between our countries in support of the Australia-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the countries ambitions through the New Colombo Plan.
The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region. It encourages a two-way flow of students between Australia and the rest of our region, complementing the thousands of students from the region coming to Australia to study each year. The New Colombo Plan is intended to be transformational, deepening Australia's relationships in the region, both at the individual level and through expanding university, business and other links.
Former Minister for Development Mr Mah Boh Tan spoke of the importance of supporting and promoting fellow Alumni and reaching back to encourage and support the new generations.
Leesa Soulodre, USQ Singapore Alumni Chapter Secretary and AAS Chair of Digital Transformation and Governance, presented to the 600 Australian Alumni gathered, the pioneer initiative of the AAS Digital Village - the one platform to connect all 140,000 Australian Alumni from 43 Universities residing in Singapore. The platform offers Alumni the opportunity to connect directly to each other through an Alumni wide Directory and real-time location database, the opportunity to promote one's business or startups and access to higher education content from across Australia's Universities. A special Karma section is included in each profile to register an Alumni's interest to mentor, open doors at their workplace or support a fellow Alumni.
In the theme of the event "Colors of Asia Pacific" Leesa wore a hand made green and gold sari on stage, to celebrate Australia's diversity and inclusion.
Leesa also announced the AAS Digital Village and Alumni Chapter Clubhouses launch event on the 1st December 2017 at SGX Centre.
